Invisalign is a method of correcting teeth alignment using a series of clear plastic aligners. It is the gold standard in orthodontics treatments, effectively creating millions of smiles over the years.
If you find yourself wondering how Invisalign treatment works, and whether it’s a good option for you, here is an easy guide to understanding how the treatment works at Southshore Dental.
Consider Your Goals
Treatment Plan
Once the dentist determines you are a good candidate for Invisalign, a detailed record of the structure of your teeth, face, gums and jaws will be analyzed and noted. These records will provide information on how your teeth will be moved. Based on the records, our dentist will create a complete treatment plan for moving your teeth from the initial placement to the desired position.

Aligner Set
Once the plan is reviewed, we move forward with the treatment to create a customized, clear aligner for you. For some patients, the first mold may be enough to move the teeth to the desired position. Depending on your condition, you will have to get a new set of aligners as you move forward with the treatment.
Some patients with more complex issues that require more teeth movement may need additional assistance called attachments. They are devices that help keep the aligner in place to encourage more tooth movement.
Follow Up Appointments
Once you get your aligners, you will have to check in with your dentist from time to time. During visits, the dentist will check and mark your progress and make adjustments if necessary. Your dentist will let you know when you need to visit for a check-up and when it’s time for a new set of aligners.
The time for new aligners will depend on how quickly your teeth start to move. Once you complete the last set of aligners, your treatment will have ended. Your teeth should have moved to the desired position, and your smile should look flawless and beautiful.
